The Somali terrorist group, al-Shabaab has been waging a campaign of violence in Somalia for more than a decade. Their aim is to replace the UN-backed government and impose Islamic law.

An African Union force has managed to seize back control of many cities including the capital Mogadishu. But al-Shabaab still controls large swathes of the country.

To weaken the organisation the government is offering amnesty to militants who leave al-Shabaab.

Some of these defectors are in a rehabilitation centre in southern Somalia, working towards rejoining the civilian population and gaining back their trust - and forgiveness.
